Ms. Jarvis is a new teacher in the middle school wing of QRMHS. She teaches ELA enrichment to the eighth graders and a writing supplement course to the seventh graders.
What did you do before you came to Quaboag?
I went to Westfield State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and Writing. I also spent most of my college career as an Education major; however I changed my major the last semester to English and Writing.
After college I dabbled in a few different jobs: Lifeguard at the local Commins Pond and YMCA of Westfield for 5 years, worked as a site director for the School’s Out program for the YMCA of Wilbraham, substitute teacher in various school districts, worked as a lab technician at UMass Memorial in Worcester, MA. Last year, before coming to Quaboag, I worked as a Title 1 teacher at WCES, working in Math, Reading, and Writing.
What schools did you graduate from?
I went to high school here at Quaboag and graduated college at Westfield State in 2010.
What do you want to do when you’re older?
I’d like to still be teaching when I’m older as well as travelling to fun places!
What are your hobbies?
I have 6 nephews and nieces so I like to spend as much time with them as possible! I also like hiking, camping and swimming! A new hobby of mine is creating organic products for skin, hair, and nails. Go Green!
What do you think is a defining characteristic about you?
My friends would define me by my ability to plan get-togethers, my sarcasm, and my dedication to friends and family.
What is your favorite colour?
Light yellow! I also like a lot of blues and teals.
What is your favorite movie/TV show?
I can’t choose between my three favorite movies: Happy Gilmore, The Sandlot, and Stand By Me. I also have a bunch of favorite TV shows including The Office, Modern Family, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Boy Meets World! Also, thanks to the 8th graders, I have been sucked into Walking Dead even more.
What is your favorite subject?
Definitely English and Creative Writing, but I enjoy Math as well!
What made you want to become a teacher?
I grew with many little kids in my family and always loved helping them with schoolwork. I’ve tried many different things but I’ve always come back to teaching! I just live what students teach and show me every day. Their humor can be the best!
Who are some of your role models?
I have many outstanding people I look up to and try to model myself after. However the one that stands out the most in my mind is my Grandmother. She helped raise my cousins and I. She taught me to be respectful, responsible, and creative! I have SO many stories of adventures at my Grandmother’s and I appreciate everything she has ever done for me.
How is Quaboag so far?
Quaboag is excellent! My fellow teachers are extremely helpful and the students make me laugh on a daily basis! It’s great to be back at my old stomping grounds!
What interests you?
I am interested in anything new and exciting! Pinterest is my weakness and makes me always want to try everything and anything! I also love photography, especially portraits and landscape.
Ms. Jarvis looks forward to future years teaching at Quaboag.
